£150bn of new green taxes on the cards

A £3,300 levy on new cars is among a raft of £150bn worth of new green tax plans, which are to be announced later today by an environmental think tank. Financial Services Authority chief, Lord Adair Turner - who also heads government's climate change committee - will officially unveil the new green tax proposals from influential group, the Green Fiscal Commission. If adopted, the new government-backed green tax regime could overhaul the tax system in an effort to stem greenhouse gas emissions and promote investment in low-carbon technology. Other proposals include tripling fuel duty over the next decade and introducing a household energy tax, The Sunday Times reports.
