This year’s Budget is being held less than ten working days before arliament is to be dissolved, leaving very little time for debate and increasing the pressure to pass the Finance Bill 2015 quickly
In a hectic schedule, the draft Finance Bill 2015 was published on 10 December 2014 and technical consultation is open until 4 February 2015 for most elements.
Chancellor George Osborne will give his final budget of this government on Wednesday 18 March, and parliament will be dissolved on Monday 30 March, ahead of the general election on 7 May.
Despite the tight timetable, the government is asking the general public and professionals for their views on what they would like to see in Budget 2015.
Anyone who wants to register their views is invited to fill a short survey online, or to submit their thoughts as a file attachment to a dedicated email address. The government says the invitation welcomes ‘original and innovative’ ideas, which ‘will be considered by the Treasury as part of the policy-making process’.
However, any suggestions are unlikely to become law as there will be no time for consultation on measures announced in the Budget due to the pending general election.
Submissions should be sent to Treasury by Friday 13 February 2015.
