Representatives from the senior management teams at BDO and Deloitte are among five new appointments to the Financial Reporting Council's (FRC's) Accounting Council, which is responsible for advising the FRC Board on financial reporting standards, monitoring international financial reporting developments and providing strategic input and thought leadership in the field of financial reporting.

Anthony Appleton, director, technical standards group at BDO and Veronica Poole, senior accounting technical partner, UK national head of accounting and global IFRS leader at Deloitte are the two advisor appointments.

They are joined by Chris Buckley, GlaxoSmithKline director for external reporting; Gunnar Miller, managing director, head of equity research Europe at Allianz Global Investors; and Liz Murrall, who is director, corporate governance and reporting at the Investment Management Association.

Roger Marshall, chair of the Accounting Council, said: 'We are delighted to welcome Veronica, Liz, Chris, Anthony and Gunnar on to the Accounting Council. They each have deep expertise in their respective fields and will provide the Council with both technical knowledge and a wide understanding of the key issues it faces.'

The FRC has also formally announced the establishment of its UK GAAP technical advisory group which will provide advice on accounting (and related company law) to the Accounting Council for entities applying UK accounting standards, principally SMEs.

The group includes representatives from Mazars, Grant Thornton, KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, Baker Tilly, Chiene + Tate, Simpkins Edwards, Duigan Carthy O'Neill, and ICAEW.

Its initial focus will include the implementation of FRS 102 The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the future of the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities.
