The chief executive of the Association of British Travel Agents has written to chancellor Alistair Darling voicing five key concerns to address in his next Budget. Mark Tanzer's concerns centre around the tax levied on air travel and include tourism taxation, air passenger duty, financial protection for air travellers, VAT and visa costs. Tanzer has urged the chancellor to cut the taxation burden on outbound and inbound tourism in order to stimulate demand; consider withdrawing APD; emphasise that the failure of the XL Group has highlighted a need for a comprehensive protection scheme for air travellers; and reduce the fairly high visa costs for entry into the UK, lawandtax-news.com reports.
