Shadow banking is set to come under greater regulatory scrutiny, and ultimately, the profession will benefit, says Ian Sanderson

The global shadow banking system matters a lot. The Financial Stability Board, the body tasked with developing effective policy recommendations for regulating the global shadow banking sector, estimates the size of the system to have been around $60 trillion (£36 trillion) in 2010 (that’s over 30 times UK GDP), having grown from $27 trillion in 2002.
