Discussions on consolidation and the derecognition of financial instruments are to be held by the International Accounting Standards Board in Asia, Europe and North America.
The round tables follow proposals made by the standard setter in December 2008 and March 2009, which proposed additional disclosures to allow investors, shareholders and other users of financial statements to have access to more transparency to the risk associated with assets.
The discussions are an additional step towards completing the IASB's review of off-balance sheet activities and seeking further views on the board's consolidation proposals, following concern raised by leaders at the Washington G-20 meeting in 2008.
As a result, the IASB accelerated its work and has announced that it will work closely with its US counterpart the Financial Accounting Standards Board to create a joint approach to off-balance sheet activity, once the FASB has completed its own short-term amendments to its standards.
